1922 - N. o escritor e poeta americano Jack Kerouac (M.1969), pseudónimo de Jean-Luis Lebris de Kerouac. Foi o líder e porta-voz da Beat Generation. Na sua busca pela libertação espiritual escreveu a sua melhor obra, de carácter autobiográfico, On the Road (1957).

Os seus filmes, mais conhecidos fora de Itália, baseavam-se muitos deles em fontes literárias – O Evangelho Segundo S. Mateus, Decameron, Canterbury Tales. Considerava-se um católico marxista e usava frequentemente imagens chocantes para demonstrar a falta de valores na sociedade actual. O seu amigo 
revolução alemã. Via-se a si própria como uma cidadã do proletariado e acreditava que apenas o socialismo poderia trazer a verdadeira liberdade e justiça social.
